| The Blackbeard's Hold pirate boat was a novelty attraction which opened in 1973. It once housed live monkeys in 1975, then a gift shop with several coin operated cannons where you shoot at targets in the water. The boat was removed at the end of the 1976 season for the construction of White Lightnin'. The loop for White Lightnin' was right about where the boat sat. It's really sad that they couldn't save this boat. Carowinds has a reputation for splintering boats seeing that the Sternwheeler met it's demise the same way. Both were beautiful construction undeserving of their fate. It goes to prove that nothing is sacred in the theme park industry.
