The view of the Frontier Outpost section above was taken from the Cable Skyway in 1973. This area was home to the Black Bear Train Station, one of three train depot's. A small, circular, open-air theater known as Troubadour's Roost (top right) was also a popular attraction. It was located in the center of several western themed shops, the largest being Uncle Jakes's Woodcrafts. Troubadour's Roost was home to a world-class puppet show until 1976 and then a bird show until the early 80's. Today, development has reached far beyond the asphalt in the photo above and only a couple of these buildings are still standing today. In 2002 this area was transformed to the Carolina Boardwalk and added a Wild Mouse coaster named Ricochet. It was built on the site of Casey's Grill (formally Sharpshooter's Shooting Gallery). Looking at this view today you would also see the 1980 addition of Carolina Cyclone built in and around the area of the old train depot, and in the distance, the Hurler roller coaster which was built in the new Wayne's World section in 1994. The Wayne's World section was renamed to "Thrill Zone" in 2002. |
