Carowinds: The Early Years

The view on the left is the Powder Keg Flume as it appeared from the Skytower in 1973 and then from 1980 on the right. This area was re-themed for the 2003 season to "Nickelodeon Central" and the Powder Keg Flume was renamed The Wild Thornberry's River Adventure (lower right photo). As one of the last few original rides left in the park, the flume has sadly been dismantled in 2009 for the addition of the new Intimidator roller coaster which opens in 2010.
