The Speedway cars were located in the Contemporary Carolinas section of the park. The Speedways que station was unique in that it also housed the Monorail station right above it. These popular gas powered cars opened in 1973 and remained through the 1991 season. The ride was renamed "Carolina Turnpike" in the late '80's. Part of the course traveled very close to the Goldrusher as well as the lagoon used by the Sternwheeler as seen in this photo. The Speedway was replaced by the Vortex stand-up coaster which opened in 1992.
