The Surfer was a unique ride located in the Pirate Island section. Riders basically just sat in the large disc while the ride spun and tilted in various directions. This was a tamer version of the infamous Tagada rides which can still be found in Europe, but without the extreme bouncing motion which makes them so notorious. The Surfer opened in 1973 and was removed after the 1976 season. The Witchdoctor was repainted, renamed Black Widow, and moved to the old Surfer location in 1977 where it resided until 1989 until being removed from the park.
